The Ballet of Catalunya empowers Shakespeare's heroine, a unique performance that fuses fashion, dance and electronic music with lights
The Ballet de Catalunya production, directed by García, embodies this vision with choreography that mixes neoclassical and contemporary elements, including the special integration of the cane dance, a distinctive Catalan folkloric element that symbolizes Julieta's fight for autonomy and against social limitations. Ramón Ivars' set design plays a fundamental role, adding visual depth and symbolizing Julieta's potential to transcend and emancipate herself.
With Julieta and Romeo, García aims to contribute to today's society by promoting women's equality and recognizing the importance of female voices in history and literature. This vision aims to inspire a more equitable perspective of female characters, reflecting the constant fight for gender equality in the modern world.
